PLUMBING TECHNOLOGY

The Plumbing program prepares students for careers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing systems. Through hands-on learning, students develop skills in pipe fitting, water supply systems, drainage and venting systems, fixture installation, blueprint reading, plumbing codes, soldering, brazing, and industry safety= practices. Students gain experience using professional tools and equipment while learning the principles that keep buildings supplied with clean water and safe sanitation systems.

Apart from the core curriculum, learners are trained for the job-seeking process through mock interviews, resume-building workshops, and hands-on technical skill development. During the program, accommodations and modifications are provided to high school students based on the IEP/504.

After completion of the one-year program, successful candidates will be prepared to earn one or more industry-recognized certifications, such as the NCCER Plumbing Level 1 certification and OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification. West-MEC offers industry credentialing exams at no additional cost. Through this program, students gain the technical knowledge and practical experience needed to begin a rewarding career in the plumbing and construction industries.

CAREER PATHWAYS

Careers that a student could pursue after receiving their certification(s) are: Apprentice Plumber, Plumbing Technician, Residential Plumber, Commercial Plumbing Installer, Service Plumber, Pipefitter Helper, Plumbing Maintenance Technician, Construction Trades Technician, Facilities Maintenance Technician, and Utility Maintenance Worker.

With additional education, certifications, apprenticeship training, licensure, or work experience, graduates may pursue careers as a Journeyman Plumber*, Master Plumber*, Pipefitter*, Steamfitter*, Plumbing Inspector*, Plumbing Estimator*, Plumbing Contractor*, Construction Superintendent*, Mechanical Project Manager*, or Mechanical Engineer*.
