LOW-VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL

The Low-Voltage Electrical program prepares students for careers installing, configuring, and maintaining the systems that power today's connected buildings and infrastructure. Through hands-on learning, students develop technical skills in structured cabling, fiber optics, network infrastructure, security and access control systems, video surveillance, audio/visual systems, fire alarm systems, telecommunications, and industry safety practices. Students also learn to interpret blueprints, install and terminate cables, test system performance, and troubleshoot low-voltage electrical systems using industry-standard tools and equipment.

Apart from the core curriculum, learners are trained for the job-seeking process through mock interviews, resume-building workshops, and hands-on technical skill development. During the program, accommodations and modifications are provided to high school students based on the IEP/504.

After completion of the one-year program, successful candidates will be prepared to earn one or more industry-recognized certifications, such as the BICSI Installer 1 (Copper) certification, OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification, and other certifications aligned with employer and industry needs. West-MEC offers industry credentialing exams at no additional cost. Through this program, students gain the technical knowledge and practical experience needed to begin a career in the rapidly growing low-voltage electrical and communications industry.

CAREER PATHWAYS

Careers that a student could pursue after receiving their certification(s) are: Low-Voltage Technician, Structured Cabling Technician, Telecommunications Technician, Fiber Optic Technician, Network Cabling Installer, Security Systems Installer, Access Control Technician, CCTV/Video Surveillance Technician, Fire Alarm Technician, Audio/Visual (AV) Technician, Data Center Technician, and Smart Building Technician.

With additional education, certifications, apprenticeship training, or work experience, graduates may pursue careers as a Network Administrator* Systems Integrator*, Electrical Estimator* Project Manager*, Electrical Contractor*, Building Automation Specialist*, Telecommunications Engineer*, Electrical Engineer*, or Construction Manager*.
