EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

The Emergency Medical Technology program teaches students basic emergency medical care. Students will learn to assess and treat patients. Training consists of first-response care, CPR, measuring vital signs, bandaging, and other life-saving procedures.

Apart from the core-curriculum, learners are trained through simulated lab experience. During the program, accommodations and modifications are provided to high school students based on the IEP/504.

After completion of the yearlong program, successful candidates will be prepared to seek one or more certifications like the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and the American Heart Association CPR/AED. Moreover, West-MEC offers industry credential tests at no additional cost. Through this paramedic training program and certification, students are provided a pathway to economic independence.


CAREER PATHWAYS

Careers that a student could pursue after receiving their certification(s) are: Ambulance emergency medical technician, EMT, firefighter*, emergency room technician*, knowledge obtained in this program is transferable to a broad spectrum of careers

This program is in partnership with GateWay Community College/Southwest Skill Center.


NATIONAL TECHNICAL HONOR SOCIETY (NTHS)

The purpose of NTHS is to recognize, honor, and promote student achievement and leadership in Career and Technical Education. The pillars of NTHS are: trustworthiness, respect, fairness, caring, and citizenship. 

Students have the opportunity to participate in NTHS after meeting eligibility criteria such as: high GPA at high school and in their West-MEC CTE program; CTSO/Volunteerism/Leadership, and outstanding professional conduct. Students who are inducted into NTHS wear stoles at the West-MEC Recognition ceremony to signify outstanding accomplishments.


This program is offered in partnership with Gateway Community College & Paradise Valley Community College.
