CLINICAL DATA COORDINATOR

The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Clinical Data Coordination provides students an understanding of the steps involved in clinical data management from study site planning, preparation, data extraction for analysis, reporting of clinical trials, with emphasis on tracking deadlines and milestones. Courses include competencies in design and development of databases, maintenance of required documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality control. In addition, the Clinical Data Coordination program ensures compliance with data security and confidentiality, federal laws and regulations in the conduct of research. Students will gain substantive knowledge in how to monitor clinical trials; as well as when, why, and how to engage clinical research organizations (CROs).

A Clinical Data Coordinator plays a crucial role in Health Information Management (HIM) and can pursue various career pathways within healthcare data and clinical research. In HIM, roles like Medical Records Technicians, Health Information Analysts, and Medical Coding Specialists involve managing patient data, ensuring accuracy, and supporting healthcare operations. In Clinical Research, professionals can advance to roles such as Clinical Research Coordinators or Clinical Data Managers, overseeing clinical trials and ensuring compliance with protocols and data accuracy.

Other career pathways include Healthcare Informatics, where coordinators can become Health Informatics Specialists or EHR Specialists, focusing on managing digital health records and analyzing healthcare data. In Bioinformatics, roles like Biostatisticians or Data Scientists involve interpreting complex datasets to inform healthcare decisions. Additionally, in Regulatory Affairs, coordinators may transition into roles such as Quality Assurance Specialists or Regulatory Coordinators, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
