ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN
West-MEC's 1-year Architectural Design program prepares students for careers in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry through a comprehensive curriculum that combines design principles, technical drafting, and real-world project experience. Students learn architectural drawing standards, residential and commercial building design, construction materials, structural systems, building codes, site development, and sustainable design practices. Throughout the program, students develop creative problem-solving and technical communication skills while progressing through each phase of the architectural design process—from initial concepts and floor plans to detailed construction documents.
Using industry-standard software such as Autodesk AutoCAD, students gain hands-on experience creating professional-quality drawings, 3D building models, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) projects. Project-based learning allows students to develop portfolios that showcase their technical and creative abilities while simulating the collaborative environment found in architectural and engineering firms. Completers have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized Autodesk certifications, preparing them for postsecondary education and entry into the rapidly growing architecture, engineering, and construction professions.

Completers of West-MEC's 1-year Architectural Design program are prepared for a variety of entry-level positions within the architecture, engineering, and construction industries. Career opportunities include Architectural Drafter, CAD Technician, BIM Technician, Residential Designer, Construction Document Technician, Interior Design Assistant, Construction Estimator, Project Coordinator, and Facilities Planning Technician. The technical skills developed through hands-on experience with architectural drafting, digital modeling, and construction documentation are highly valued by architectural firms, engineering companies, construction organizations, and government agencies. The program also provides an excellent foundation for students pursuing advanced education in architecture, architectural engineering, construction management, civil engineering, interior design, landscape architecture, and related fields.
