AIR CONDITIONING TECHNOLOGY
The Air Conditioning Technology program introduces students to the basic elements of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Here, students will have the opportunity to analyze electrical systems, perform maintenance repairs, troubleshoot and install air conditioning and heating units.
Apart from the core curriculum, learners are trained for the job-seeking process through mock interviews and resume building workshops. During the program, accommodations and modifications are provided to high school students based on the IEP/504.
After completion of the one-year program, successful candidates will be prepared to seek one or more certifications like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608. Moreover, West-MEC offers industry credential tests at no additional cost. Through the Air Conditioning Technology program and certification, students are provided a pathway to economic independence.
CAREER PATHWAYS
Careers that a student could pursue after receiving their certification(s) are: Heating, ventilation, air conditioning service technician (HVAC service technician); heating, ventilation, air conditioning technician (HVAC technician); heating, ventilation, air conditioning installer (HVAC installer); facilities technician.
The job of a heating ventilation and air conditioning technician requires strength and dexterity while providing an interesting work life. There are opportunities in various work environments like construction, schools, hospitals and homes. Self-employment is also a viable option in this field.
