Pharmacy Technician
West-MEC’s Adult Education Pharmacy Technician program provides students with 600 clock-hours of coursework to gain in-depth knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacy law, pharmacology, prescription preparation, sterile compounding, and more. The program includes a 160-clock-hour externship that helps students apply learned skills in a real-world pharmacy setting, gaining valuable experience and building a professional network.
Upon completion of the program, students may test* to receive their Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification.
*Test fees are the responsibility of the student

Pharmacy technicians play a key role in supporting pharmacists by preparing medications. Working alongside pharmacists, pharmacy technicians contribute to patient care by accurately fulfilling prescriptions, maintaining organized records, and ensuring patients have access to the pharmacist's expertise when needed. Our comprehensive program and externship will prepare you for a rewarding healthcare career.
CAREER PATHWAYS*
The Adult Education Pharmacy Technician program completers with a PTCB certification can start in entry-level roles in the following settings:
- Community Pharmacy: Assist Pharmacists in dispensing medications and providing customer service.
- Hospitals: Prepare medications for inpatient and outpatient settings, work in sterile compounding, and manage inventory.
- Long-Term Care Facilities: Ensure residents recieve the medications they need in a timely and accurate manner.
- Compounding Pharmacies: Create customized medications for patients with specific needs.
- Mail-order Insurance Companies: Fill and process prescriptions for delivery to patients.
